Abstract: An important way to realize the urban rail vehicle lightweight is to use the new lightweight carbody structural material. In this paper, the research and application of new materials such as the nano-structure controlled aluminum alloy，ignition-proof magnesium alloy and composite material are described. It is pointed out that the research and application of new lightweight material to urban rail transit vehicle in China should be strengthened，in order to manufacture the products with independent property rights and improve the manufacturing level.
