Key Issues and Reflections on Rail Transit Development in Shenzhen Metropolitan Area

Objective The planning and construction of metropolitan area is an inevitable requirement for implementing the coordinated regional development strategy and new urbanization strategy in the new era. Establishing a multi-level, integrated metropolitan rail transit system centered on Shenzhen is an important means to build a modern metropolitan area. Method Based on an analysis of current development status of rail transit in Shenzhen metropolitan area, it is clarified that the main problems faced are imperfect functional levels, a mismatch between technical standards and demands, and the missing of inter-regional collaborative promotion mechanism. The development trend and characteristics of Shenzhen metropolitan area are analyzed, and the requirements for the development of rail transit in the metropolitan area are proposed. It is clarified that the key issues that need to be addressed in promoting the planning and construction of rail transit in the metropolitan area are the functional levels and technical standards, the matching of network layout and demand, the investment and financing models, and the coordinated promotion system and mechanism. Result ＆ Conclusion Aiming at high-level planning, high-quality service and high-quality investment, measures such as the functional level and planning standards of the Shenzhen metropolitan area rail transit, network integration, and long-term mechanisms for cross-city rail coordination are proposed to promote the high-quality development of the Shenzhen metropolitan area rail transit.
