Application of Bi-directional Converters in Suspended Monorail Power Supply Systems

  • Objective According to the system mode and load characteristics of suspended monorail (hereinafter referred to as "suspended rail"), a set of technically feasible and economically reasonable power supply system design scheme based on bi-directional converter device is proposed.
Method Based on an analysis of the bi-directional converter operating characteristics and its adaptability to the suspension rail system, a main wiring scheme of bi-directional conversion devices completely replacing rectifier units for traction power supply is proposed. And the reactive power compensation scheme of the bi-directional converter device replacing SVG (static var generator) in the switching station is demonstrated by estimation.
Result & Conclusion  The feasibility of the proposed application scheme for the suspended rail traction power supply system is validated through specific analysis. Combined with simulation calculations, the significant advantages of bi- directional conversion devices over rectifier units in terms of voltage stabilization and energy saving are verified. By using the distributed reactive power compensation function of bi-directional conversion devices while simultaneously adopting a collaborative control strategy, the centralized SVG compensation in power switching stations can be replaced, further improving the energy-saving effect. The proposed design scheme provides a certain degree of reference for the traction power supply design and application of similar suspended rail projects.
